KATHMANDU, AUG 29 - Batas Brothers Motors (BBM), a subsidiary of the Batas Organisation and the sole authorised distributor of Hyosung two-wheelers in Nepal, has introduced a new cruiser motorcycle, the Hyosung GV 650. The 650 cc motorcycle is also known as Aquila in some markets across the globe. Hyosung is a well-known manufacturer of two-wheelers based in South Korea. Even though cruiser motorcycles have not been performing well in the Nepali market, the company has brought the GV 650 to lure two-wheeler enthusiasts looking for a new experience. “The motorcycle will appeal to people who want to present themselves differently,” said Devshworup Maharjan, director of BBM. He added that young businessmen and corporate honchos were their potential customers.
The new Hyosung motorcycle features a V2, four-stroke engine with a DOHC fuel control system. With a displacement of 647.00 cc, the engine has a power output of 69.73 hp at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 62.00 nm at 7,000 rpm, the company said. The engine is mated with a five-speed gearbox. To enhance the performance of the motorcycle’s engine, the two-wheeler has been fitted with an oil and air cooling system. The motorcycle has a top speed of 195 kmph. Despite being a high-end machine, the company claims that it delivers a mileage of around 25 kmpl.
According to BBM, the GV 650 is a popular motorcycle model across the globe which is technically superior and offers a different feel to riders. The company believes that it will compete with high-end motorcycles from prominent brands like Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki Ninza, among others. “Despite being a younger brand in the domestic market, Hyosung has become successful in creating a separate market for itself. We are sure that this new model can compete with 600-700 cc motorcycles from any other prominent brand,” said Maharjan. BBM has been marketing Hyosung in the Nepali market since 2010. To ensure a comfortable riding experience, the motorcycle is fitted with an upside down telescopic, compression, rebound damping adjustable front suspension and swing arm with hydraulic double shock absorber rear suspension. For safety and stability, the motorcycle has a semi-floating double disc brake with two-piston calliper in the front wheel. The rear wheel features a two-piston calliper single disc brake. Despite being a cruiser, the motorcycle has an impressive ground clearance of 160 mm making it suitable for domestic roadways. The new Hyosung model has a fuel tank which can hold up to 15.9 l of gasoline. Moreover, its reserve tank can hold 2.5 l. The motorcycle weighs 229 kg. Apart from Kathmandu, BBM is planning to promote this model in Pokhara, Dharan and Butwal. To make sure that the motorcycle is well accepted across the country, BBM has accorded priority to after sales service and spare parts. “After sales service and spare parts fall among our key priorities. We make sure that there is an adequate stock of spares even if we have sold just a single unit,” said Maharjan. He added that the company maintains 3S outlets (sales, service and spares) in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Itahari and Butwal. The company plans to add one more 3S outlet in Narayanghat. According to BBM, the two-wheeler is available in black/orange, black, white and pink colour options. The company has priced the machine at Rs 1.1 million.
